McDavid becomes the first this season to reach 100 points in NHL
Connor McDavid has become the first player this season to reach 100 points in the NHL following a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Kings.
In a standout performance on Thursday, Canadian forward Connor McDavid led the Edmonton Oilers to an emphatic 8-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL. With this milestone, he became the first player in the league to reach the 100-point mark this season. McDavid’s accomplishment is particularly notable as it marks the sixth consecutive season in which he has achieved this feat, scoring 35 goals and providing 65 assists thus far in the current season.
The game showcased McDavid's integral role in the Oilers' success, as he contributed one goal and one assist, alongside Leon Draisaitl, who had an impressive outing with one goal and three assists. This victory positions the Oilers firmly in the playoff hunt, with 66 points accumulated from 60 games, securing the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings.
Historically, McDavid's achievement places him among the elite in NHL history, as this is his ninth career season scoring over 100 points. Only Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux have more 100-point seasons, with Gretzky holding the record at 15. This performance not only cements McDavid’s status as one of the league's top players but also influences the dynamics of the playoff race in the Western Conference, where the Kings sit somewhat precariously in 10th place with 60 points from 58 games.
