Porin Linjat in trouble โ€“ several bus routes canceled due to slipperiness

Porin Linjat has canceled several bus routes due to slippery conditions, particularly in rural areas and Meri-Pori.

Porin Linjat, a public transport service in Finland, has had to cancel multiple bus routes due to hazardous slippery conditions caused by weather, especially affecting rural areas and the Meri-Pori region. This disruption has notably impacted routes between Makholma and Pihlava, as well as between Viasveden and the city center. Additionally, services in the areas of Lyttylรค and Lattomeri have also seen cancellations, indicating widespread issues.

The CEO of Porin Linjat, Jarno Valtanen, mentioned that buses are stuck in locations like Paarnoori in Meri-Pori and Preiviikki as the roads have become dangerously icy with water on top of the ice. He emphasized the challenges drivers face in starting from bus stops when conditions are this treacherous. The importance of pre-treatment of roads with sand and proper forecasting to mitigate these issues was highlighted, underscoring a proactive approach to winter weather challenges.

Furthermore, Valtanen noted that the company is communicating these cancellations to the Porin public transport authority, which in turn disseminates information to schools in the area. Fortunately, some parents are able to assist by picking up their children from nearby stops and taking them to school, illustrating community support in response to the transport disruptions.
