Cuba vows to confront any aggression after armed clash with American boat

Cuba's president promises to defend the nation's sovereignty against any terrorist aggression following a violent encounter with a U.S.-registered boat.

Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel has firmly stated that the country will defend itself resolutely against any 'terrorist aggression' targeting its sovereignty, in response to an armed clash involving a U.S.-registered speedboat and Cuban coastguards in the island's northern waters. This incident sparked a violent engagement that resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to six others, including a coastguard officer, highlighting the tensions between Cuba and the U.S.

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior announced that they had thwarted an armed incursion after the occupants of the speedboat opened fire on coastguard personnel who approached to inspect the vessel. President Díaz-Canel accused groups operating from U.S. territory of orchestrating disruptive acts against Cuba, reinforcing the government's narrative of external threats to national stability. The confrontation raises concerns about the escalation of hostilities in the region, particularly given the backdrop of strained relations between Cuba and the United States.

Additionally, the detained individuals reportedly confessed that they intended to conduct a 'terrorist' infiltration into Cuban territory, and two of the injured are already listed among the country's most wanted criminals. These developments point to a potentially volatile situation, as the Cuban government prepares to respond decisively to protect its sovereignty and stability against what it perceives as external aggression, demanding vigilance from its citizens and a united stance against foreign interference.
