Swedish Minister: The drone neutralized near the French warship was probably Russian

A Swedish military official stated that a drone, likely originating from Russia, was spotted near the French aircraft carrier and has since been neutralized.

Swedish Defence Minister P. Jonson reported that a drone which was recently neutralized near the French aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' likely came from Russia, as a Russian warship was present in the vicinity during the incident. The Swedish armed forces are currently investigating the event, which occurred in the Öresund Strait, about 13 kilometers from the French vessel. Jonson emphasized a strong connection between the Russian military ship and the drone's approach, suggesting that the drone may have breached Swedish airspace.

The Swedish Navy detected the drone and managed to jam its signal, effectively neutralizing it. According to reports from the French military, the Swedish forces took defensive actions to counter the suspicious drone, but communication with the drone was lost shortly after these measures were implemented. This event highlights the increasing concerns regarding airspace security in the region, especially with the ongoing tensions between Russia and NATO member states.

In conjunction with the ongoing NATO exercises, special protective measures were reportedly undertaken in Sweden during the French warship's visit. The presence of the flagship of the French Navy and its accompanying ships in the port of Malmö marks a significant engagement ahead of the NATO drills, reflecting the critical nature of military collaborations in the Baltic Sea region amidst geopolitical tensions involving Russia.
