Big Gift... The Coverage of Free Treatment Up to 5 Lakh Expanded, Now These People Will Also Be Eligible

The Delhi government has expanded the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), now including widows and individuals receiving assistance under disability schemes for health insurance coverage.

In a significant policy change, the Delhi government has expanded the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), allowing more individuals, particularly widows and those benefiting from disability assistance programs, to access cashless healthcare. This expansion aims to increase the number of families eligible for up to 5 lakh rupees in health insurance annually, addressing rising healthcare costs for economically disadvantaged communities.

Around 397,000 widows and 131,000 disabled individuals and their families have been added to the scheme, reflecting the government's commitment to inclusivity in health services. Previously, approximately 550,000 families were already covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and this expansion is expected to significantly increase that number, providing much-needed financial relief and support for vulnerable sections of society.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this change during a cabinet meeting, emphasizing the inclusion of families of eligible beneficiaries. This initiative is not only a healthcare boost but also a crucial step toward ensuring equitable access to health services for all, further strengthening the social safety net for some of society's most vulnerable groups. The government hopes this will enhance overall public health outcomes in the capital city, as more families gain the ability to seek necessary medical care without financial burden.
