The BD Barcelona design studio showcases a collection of furniture based on Antoni Gaudí's designs, presented in full for the first time to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.
The BD Barcelona design studio has dedicated years to the production of furniture based on the works of renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, specifically designs crafted over a century ago for two of his residential buildings in Barcelona. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's passing, the studio has for the first time unveiled the complete collection of his furniture projects associated with Casa Calvet and Casa Batlló, highlighting the architect's multifaceted genius.
Gaudí is best known for his distinctive architectural style characterized by irregular organic shapes, inspirations drawn from nature, and a unique structural approach that infuses a surreal quality into his creations. Living from 1852 to 1926, he is celebrated as one of history's most visionary architects, and his influence persists in various forms of art and design. Beyond his iconic buildings such as the Sagrada Familia and Casa Milà, Gaudí's contributions to furniture design reflect his artistic philosophy and innovative spirit.
The furniture collection showcases the intricate and creative design elements typical of Gaudí's work, aligning with his architectural vision while maintaining functional usability. This initiative also serves to renew interest in Gaudí’s legacy as an architect who transcended conventional boundaries, reinforcing his status not just as a builder of grand structures but also as a pioneer in the realm of furniture design, now finally recognized in a unique exhibition format.
