Miku Ode, born Jevdokia Kanniste on February 27, 1857, was a notable Seto singer whose songs were collected by the folklorist Jakob Hurt. Her contributions to Estonian folk music helped her gain recognition both in Estonia and Finland, especially through her long song 'Uba ja Hernes,' which consists of 546 lines. Ode's life was marked by tragedy, as she faced the challenges of being an illegitimate child during a time when it was stigmatized, and later married a man with substance abuse issues. After his death, she was left to care for his six sons, while her own daughter's early death compounded her hardships.
