Tesla arrives with 'a treat in hand' in NL: Attracts 100 companies and increases the price of facilities
Tesla's planned gigafactory in Nuevo León has not yet begun construction, but it's already spurring a surge of automotive suppliers in the region, inflating industrial leasing prices significantly.
A year after the announcement of Tesla's gigafactory installation in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, the construction of the plant has yet to commence, despite earlier speculation that it would start in early March. Tesla's impending arrival has already attracted around 100 automotive suppliers to the region, leading to a dramatic increase of up to 50% in the leasing prices for industrial spaces in the area. This influx of businesses signifies heightened economic activity and investment potential within Nuevo León.
José Luis Garza Garza, Deputy Secretary for Business Promotion at Nuevo León's Secretariat of Economy, mentioned that preliminary steps are being taken before the actual construction begins, with the expectation that Tesla's plant could be completed in under a year once it starts. The local government is making concerted efforts to address necessary commitments such as building overpasses, ensuring water supply, waste management, and urban development plans to facilitate the smooth operation and expansion of Tesla's facility and its related suppliers.
However, there are concerns regarding potential delays in the plant's construction timeline, with speculations suggesting that it could take years before the factory becomes operational. As the situation develops, stakeholders in both the public and private sectors closely monitor the progress, as Tesla's presence in Nuevo León could lead to significant economic transformation for the region, altering its industrial landscape and boosting job creation.
