The growth indicates a recovery and boom in the tourism sector, aided by platforms like Airbnb, which have transformed how visitors experience the city and engage with its local economy.
Airbnb also measured the broader economic impact of its platform in the capital, reporting that the direct, indirect, and induced economic impact of bookings in Mexico City for 2023 reached approximately 15.566 billion pesos (around 878 million dollars). Terral highlighted that a significant portion, 22 percent of this economic impact, is concentrated around food services and accommodation facilitated through Airbnb, further emphasizing the platform's role in not just hospitality but also in boosting local commerce.
