Airbnb hosts earn 92,000 pesos in CDMX
In 2023, Airbnb hosts in Mexico City had a typical income of 92,000 pesos, marking a significant increase from previous years, as reported by Ángel Terral, the company's general director in Mexico.
During 2023, the average income for registered Airbnb hosts in Mexico City was noted to be 92,000 pesos, according to an exclusive revelation from Ángel Terral, the general director of Airbnb in Mexico. This figure signifies a substantial increase of 79.3 percent in average earnings since 2019. The growth indicates a recovery and boom in the tourism sector, aided by platforms like Airbnb, which have transformed how visitors experience the city and engage with its local economy.
Airbnb also measured the broader economic impact of its platform in the capital, reporting that the direct, indirect, and induced economic impact of bookings in Mexico City for 2023 reached approximately 15.566 billion pesos (around 878 million dollars). Terral highlighted that a significant portion, 22 percent of this economic impact, is concentrated around food services and accommodation facilitated through Airbnb, further emphasizing the platform's role in not just hospitality but also in boosting local commerce.
The study conducted by the company revealed an interesting consumer behavior: for every peso spent on an Airbnb reservation, travelers tend to spend an additional three pesos on various other products and services. This multiplier effect showcases how platforms like Airbnb are pivotal in driving economic growth in urban areas by creating additional business opportunities and supporting local economies through increased consumer spending.
