War Erupts Between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Taliban Captures Several Border Posts, PAK Army Drops Bombs in Kabul
The conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalates, with the Taliban launching attacks on border posts and the Pakistani Army conducting airstrikes in Kabul.
The aggression between Pakistan and Afghanistan has intensified as the Pakistani military carried out airstrikes in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia on February 26, responding to what it termed an 'unprovoked attack' from the Taliban. In the midst of these air raids, the Taliban announced a large-scale offensive targeting several Pakistani border posts, marking a significant escalation in the area of conflict. The Pakistani government, led by President Asif Ali Zardari, firmly stands against any compromise on the territorial integrity of the country while the Taliban has threatened a strong retaliation against these attacks.
In terms of casualties from the ongoing military activities, the Afghan Defense Ministry reported that Pakistani airstrikes resulted in the loss of civilian lives, including women and children. In retaliation, Afghan forces have engaged in counteroffensive actions in the provinces of Paktia, Khost, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Nuristan, reportedly pushing back Pakistan’s troops in several engagements. The ministry claimed that Afghan forces have taken possession of two military bases and 19 posts while Pakistani soldiers fled from four posts, indicating a potential shift in control and influence in these contested regions.
This growing conflict raises significant concerns regarding regional stability and the humanitarian impact of military hostilities, with both sides accusing each other of inciting violence. The tensions not only threaten bilateral relations but also have the potential to destabilize the broader South Asian region, drawing in international attention and calls for ceasefire and negotiations to prevent further escalation of violence.
