Is this battery still usable? Nissan issues proof of battery life for used EVs
Nissan has announced a new initiative to issue certificates validating the battery life of used electric vehicles (EVs) to alleviate concerns among potential buyers.
Nissan has launched a program aimed at enhancing the resale market for used electric vehicles (EVs) by issuing certificates that confirm the battery life of these cars. This initiative, announced on the 27th, addresses a common hesitation among buyers worried about the deterioration of EV batteries. By providing a manufacturer-backed validation of battery performance, Nissan hopes to build consumer confidence and stimulate the used EV market.
The program will initially be implemented at three dealerships in Chiba Prefecture, focusing on the second-generation (ZE1 type) Nissan Leaf models sold from 2017 onwards. After being purchased by affiliated dealers for resale, the vehicles will undergo diagnostics to determine battery capacity relative to when it was new and how far it can travel on a full charge. The findings will then be compiled into a certificate issued by Nissan, which will also be made available on their official used car search website.
As the used EV market grows, Nissan is considering expanding the program to include different vehicle models and regions. This move not only reflects Nissan's strategy to boost confidence in their products amidst growing EV adoption but also signals a broader recognition of the importance of battery health in the resale value of electric vehicles.
