Falabella, a major player in the retail and banking sectors in Chile, has confirmed an agreement to acquire Linio, an e-commerce platform, for about 138 million dollars. This strategic move marks Falabella's entry into the competitive e-commerce market in Mexico, which was valued at approximately 329.85 billion pesos in 2016 and has been experiencing double-digit annual growth. Gastón Bottazzinni, the general manager of SACI Falabella, highlighted that the purchase of Linio would significantly increase sales capabilities for Falabella's retail divisions, including its brands such as Sodimac and Tottus. By consolidating their offerings, Falabella plans to create a unified platform showcasing products from its various companies while also allowing them to maintain their individual online sales sites.
