[Breaking News] Joint Investigation Team on Religious-Political Collusion Raids People Power Party Over Shincheonji Membership Allegations
The joint investigation team is conducting a raid on the People Power Party regarding allegations of collective membership registrations by Shincheonji church members.
A joint investigation team, led by Kim Tae-hoon, is probing allegations of collusion between religion and politics. On the morning of the 27th, investigators and prosecutors initiated a raid at the headquarters of the People Power Party in Yeouido, Seoul, as well as at a company that manages party member data. The investigations are linked to allegations that members of the Shincheonji congregation were coerced into joining the People Power Party en masse in connection with the 2022 presidential and upcoming 2024 elections. Testimonies from former Shincheonji officials indicate that this mass recruitment was allegedly orchestrated to ensure the victory of former President Yoon Seok-yeol in the party's internal primary. Earlier, on the 30th of last month, the investigation team had already conducted raids on Shincheonji's headquarters in Gyeonggi Province on charges of violating political party laws and obstructing business.
