Alberta police recover stolen Jaws of Life used in string of thefts
Three men have been charged in connection with a series of break-ins in Edmonton utilizing stolen rescue tools, including the Jaws of Life.
Police in Alberta have made significant progress in their investigation of a string of break-ins linked to stolen rescue equipment. Following thefts at volunteer fire departments in Water Valley and Calahoo, where essential tools valued at $110,000, including the Jaws of Life, were taken, authorities have connected these items to multiple thefts in Edmonton. The initial break-ins occurred during November and December 2025, targeting life-saving tools crucial for firefighter operations.
In an alarming turn, the stolen Jaws of Life were discovered to have been employed in a series of 14 break-ins across Edmonton from December into January 2026. These incidents targeted cannabis shops, bars, and high-end retailers, resulting in property damage and losses estimated between $750,000 and $1 million. The stolen goods included luxury bags, jackets, cannabis products, and significant amounts of cash, illustrating a troubling trend where essential emergency tools were repurposed for criminal activity.
By the end of January 2026, police apprehended two suspects, Logan Murrell and Tristi, furthering their commitment to tackling organized crime linked to essential lifesaving equipment. As investigations continue, the police underline the importance of protecting community resources, emphasizing that the theft not only impacts businesses but also public safety, highlighting the need for robust security measures to safeguard vital emergency tools.
