Yasmin Macêdo Case: Trial of the Accused for the Influencer's Death Set for August in Belém
The trial of Lucas Magalhães, accused of murdering digital influencer Yasmin Macêdo, is scheduled for August 25 in Belém, Brazil.
The Pará Justice has set the trial date for Lucas Magalhães, the accused in the murder of digital influencer Yasmin Cavaleiro de Macêdo, for August 25. This case has been pending for over four years due to multiple appeals by the defendant's defense team, which have been exhausted in higher courts, including Brazil's Supreme Federal Court. The legal proceedings have faced delays, as the defense employed various delaying tactics, according to Madson Nogueira, the lawyer representing Yasmin's family.
Lucas Magalhães is facing serious charges, including homicide with eventual intent, procedural fraud, and illegal possession and discharge of a firearm. If convicted, the minimum sentences could total up to 15 years in prison. Magalhães has been under provisional release since 2023, adding to the family’s anguish as they have navigated this legal system for more than four years, waiting for justice to be served.
For Yasmin's family, the upcoming trial signifies the end of a long wait and the hope for closure in a painful chapter of their lives. Madson Nogueira emphasized the importance of patience throughout this lengthy legal journey, indicating that the family now looks forward to the day that justice may finally be rendered in their favor.
