Pembina Pipeline green-lights 2 projects in B.C. and Alberta, reports dip in Q4 earnings
Pembina Pipeline Corp. has approved two pipeline expansion projects in British Columbia and Alberta despite reporting a decline in fourth-quarter earnings.
Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline Corp. has announced its decision to proceed with two substantial pipeline expansion projects located in British Columbia and Alberta, in spite of a reported decline in earnings for the fourth quarter of 2025. The company reported earnings of $489 million, translating to 78 cents per share, down from $572 million (92 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. Additionally, revenue decreased significantly from $2.15 billion to $1.91 billion, reflecting ongoing challenges in the energy market.
The two projects represent a significant total investment of $425 million and are expected to come into service next year, highlighting Pembina's commitment to expanding its infrastructure capabilities. One major initiative involves a new 95-kilometre pipeline designed to transport 120,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids from Birch to Taylor, British Columbia, constituting a $310-million venture. Meanwhile, an initial phase of another project, linking Taylor to a new pump station in Gordondale, Alberta, will cost approximately $115 million and is aimed at enhancing transport efficiency in the region.
Pembina's decision to move forward with these investments, despite financial setbacks, underscores a strategic focus on infrastructure development in the energy sector. The company aims to enhance its operational capacity and positions itself for potential future growth, particularly as demand for energy resources continues to escalate. This move also signals confidence in the long-term viability of the Canadian energy market, as Pembina plays a critical role in managing and transporting energy resources across provinces.
