The Exhibition on the Life and Fame of Mia Čorak Slavenska Opens

A new exhibition showcases the life and legacy of Croatia's first prima ballerina, Mia Čorak Slavenska, at the Museum of Brod Posavina in Slavonski Brod.

The exhibition 'Love and Applause', opened to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Mia Čorak Slavenska's birth, highlights her remarkable contributions to ballet and her global influence. Held at the Museum of Brod Posavina, this exhibition is a collaborative effort with her daughter, Marija Ramas, and offers the first significant display of Slavenska's legacy in her home country. Between the artifacts and stories presented, visitors are taken on a journey through Slavenska's life and career, illustrating the depth of her passion for dance.

Slavenska, who passed away on October 5, 2002, was not only a pioneering figure in Croatian ballet but also made a name for herself on prestigious world stages, notably as a prima ballerina with the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The exhibition serves to reintroduce her to a Croatian audience that had forgotten her contributions over time, presenting various aspects of her professional and personal life influenced by her devotion to ballet.

Curator Uršula Bešlić emphasized that Slavenska's dedication to dance shaped every facet of her existence, from her career milestones to her personal experiences. This exhibition aims to celebrate her as an uncompromising artist, ensuring that her story continues to inspire future generations of dancers and art lovers alike.
