A rice procurement company in Akita Prefecture, Japan, has been facing harassment calls blaming them for rising rice prices due to an incident involving unfulfilled rice stock contracts.
In April 2025, Jstyle LLC, a rice procurement company in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, experienced a month-long barrage of harassment calls accusing them of being responsible for soaring rice prices, with callers labeling them as "resellers" and hurling insults. Junichi Miura, the company's representative, expressed that the accusations were unfounded and that their business was not involved in resale practices. The situation unfolded shortly after the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced that some rice collection businesses, including Jstyle, faced sanctions for failing to deliver approximately 2,000 tons of stock rice as part of a government contract.
