The Government seeks to accelerate the launch of mobile phones in Argentina

The Argentine government is implementing a new resolution to speed up the homologation process for mobile phones, potentially reducing the time it takes for new devices to be available in the country.

The Argentine government is striving to expedite the launch of mobile phones in the country through the recent resolution 57/26, which updates and simplifies the homologation process required for the commercialization of telecommunications equipment. Historically, it has taken up to three months for a new mobile phone to transition from international launch to availability in Argentina. However, with recent advancements, manufacturers and importers have been able to decrease this gap, and this new resolution aims to accelerate it further.

The National Communications Entity (Enacom) announced that the revised homologation procedures will replace regulations that have been in place for over 30 years. This change is designed to align Argentina's telecom regulations more closely with international standards, ultimately facilitating a quicker market entry for new mobile devices. The government believes that this reform will not only benefit consumers by providing them faster access to the latest technology but also enhance competition among telecom companies in the local market.

Industry stakeholders have indicated that while they have already been operating in timeframe similar to global markets, the new resolution is expected to standardize processes and possibly lead to additional efficiencies. This move aligns with the broader agenda of the Argentine government to modernize its telecom infrastructure and promote technological innovation, positioning the country as a potential leader in smartphone access within the region.
