Vocento discovers nearly six million euros in fraud in its purchasing, printing, and distribution area
Vocento has uncovered a significant fraud amounting to 5.8 million euros in its purchasing, printing, and distribution divisions, leading to a restatement of its 2024 accounts.
Vocento, a Spanish media group, has revealed the discovery of a substantial accounting fraud involving nearly 6 million euros, which pertains to the way certain raw materials were recorded in its purchasing, printing, and distribution areas. This misappropriation necessitated a restatement of its financial accounts for 2024, indicating significant discrepancies that raised concerns among stakeholders. Such fraud was communicated to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
The irregularities came to light during an internal financial review that exposed inconsistencies in inventory figures and raw materials, prompting Vocento to launch an internal investigation. This investigation is being conducted with the assistance of an independent expert, aiming to trace the origins of these discrepancies and assess the extent of the fraudulent activities. The company outlined that these discrepancies were the result of fraudulent actions, particularly the issuance of false inventory deposit certificates.
As a consequence of these findings, disciplinary measures are being initiated against those individuals implicated in the fraudulent activities. This incident reflects broader concerns within the corporate governance frameworks in Spain, triggering dialogues about enhancing oversight and accountability in the financial practices of sizable media organizations, particularly in light of stricter regulatory environments.
