Presidency backs campaign against social vices in schools, donates N50m

The Nigerian Presidency has donated N50 million to support a campaign against social vices in schools, highlighting the national concern of rising youth misconduct.

The Nigerian Presidency has taken steps to tackle the alarming rise of social vices among youths by donating N50 million to the Special Committee on the Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions. This announcement was made by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, during a meeting at the State House in Abuja with committee members, emphasizing the growing concern of misconduct among young people and its detrimental impact on society.

Gbajabiamila described the donation as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to addressing what has become a near-pandemic challenge globally. The funds will be released in two tranches, beginning with N25 million. This initiative aims to develop effective strategies and programs targeted at reducing social vices in educational institutions, thus fostering a healthier environment for learning and growth among students.

In his remarks, Gbajabiamila stressed the importance of acting decisively, saying, β€œWe cannot sit back and do nothing and expect this country to grow or develop if we do not start from the foundation.” This initiative signals the government's recognition of the need for proactive measures to curb social issues that hinder the development of the youth, ultimately impacting the nation's future.
