K. Budrys: The Creating Diaspora Enriches Lithuania and Strengthens Its Future
Minister K. Budrys emphasizes the importance of the Lithuanian diaspora in enriching the nation’s culture and helping Lithuania to be heard in the world.
During a meeting with members of the creating diaspora at the Vilnius Book Fair, Minister K. Budrys highlighted the significant role that the diaspora plays in enhancing Lithuania's presence globally. He noted that the voices of Lithuanians abroad help the country to be better heard in the world and that creativity is not just an art form, but a testament to a conscious and unbroken connection with Lithuania.
Budrys explained that the relationship between Lithuania and its expatriates is a constant priority for the state. He emphasized that culture and creativity provide a deeply personal and emotional expression of this link. The minister expressed gratitude toward Lithuanian writers who choose to create in their native language even while living far from home, stating that the Lithuanian word transcends thousands of kilometers and contributes to a shared cultural identity.
Finally, he acknowledged the rich and authentic content produced by the diaspora, which enriches the nation's worldview and strengthens society’s resilience against informational threats. Budrys met with various diaspora creators, including writer Jolita Herlyn, director Rasa Weiss, and lituanist Geda Montvilaite, who are all significant figures in the Lithuanian cultural scene abroad.
