Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a presidential aspirant representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticized the results of the recent Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), labeling them as a 'political illusion.' Speaking at a PDP stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, he expressed concerns about the electoral victories claimed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), following elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that covered the six FCT Area Councils, namely Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.

The INEC reported that the APC secured chairmanship positions in four councils - Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari - while the PDP won in Gwagwalada. However, contrasting Olawepo-Hashim's perspective, he argued that many of those APC candidates who were declared victorious had historically been members of the PDP, thus questioning the legitimacy of the election outcomes.
