Wind power production in Finland faces challenges as it receives only half of the average electricity market price due to overbuilding in recent years.
Wind power in Finland is struggling due to overcapacity and the phenomenon of 'double cannibalization'. According to a report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), wind power producers are currently receiving approximately half of the average electricity market price. This situation has arisen because excessive wind energy generation leads to lower electricity prices, occasionally dropping to zero or below during peak production times. When there's plenty of wind, electricity supply increases, driving market prices down.
