The Ministry of Croatian Veterans in Croatia has issued a public call for a competitive award for short stories centered on the Homeland War, aimed at high school students across Croatia and Bosnian schools teaching in Croatian. This initiative seeks to foster the preservation of memories and the promotion of values linked to the Homeland War, encouraging young students to engage creatively with their historical context.

Eligible students can submit one unpublished short story, which must be written in standard Croatian or a dialect from Croatia. The stories can be based on real or fictional events pertaining to the Homeland War, allowing students to explore both narrative forms while reflecting on their cultural heritage. The stipulation of a character length between 1,800 and 9,000 characters ensures a robust exploration of themes within the submissions.
