Kalle Rovanperä, a rally master, is currently navigating a steep learning curve as he transitions to racing in Japan's Super Formula series. Recent tests in Suzuka highlighted the differences between the cars he is accustomed to and the Super Formula vehicles, which demand a higher level of skill and experience. While Rovanperä previously achieved a commendable third place in a rain-affected race in the Oceania series, his performance in Japan has seen him struggling towards the back of the results during testing.
Former F1 driver Mika Salo emphasized the challenges Rovanperä faces, stating that the leap from the Oceania's Formula Regional class to the Super Formula is substantial due to the drastic differences in speed and handling. The Super Formula cars boast significantly more power at approximately 550 horsepower, compared to around 270 horsepower for the Oceania cars. This stark contrast creates an entirely different driving experience that Rovanperä must adapt to quickly.
