Tuukka Heikkilä, a cyber security expert from the energy industry, has emphasized the seriousness of a newly identified threat in Sweden concerning its energy network. This warning comes on the heels of a significant cyber attack on Poland's energy infrastructure that occurred just before the New Year, which many believe may have been a test from Russia aimed at NATO countries. The December cyber offensive targeted multiple sites within the Polish energy sector simultaneously with malware, underlining the vulnerabilities that exist in critical energy infrastructures across Europe.

Heikkilä pointed out that the information available suggests Sweden may be facing a comparable threat, although the details remain unclear at this stage. In recent months, there have also been attempts to infiltrate Finland's energy infrastructure; however, these incidents have mostly been managed quietly. Heikkilä reassured that Finland's energy networks are well-secured, in part due to the lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine since the onset of Russia's war.
