Catering: Dachau Takes a Liking to Pop-up Venues

Dachau plans to expand its pop-up gastronomy offerings by opening a new area for mobile bar events, which have gained popularity in recent years.

Dachau, a city in Germany, is embracing the concept of pop-up gastronomy as a way to enhance its cultural scene and attract both locals and visitors. The latest development is the announcement of a new area at the Unteren Markt for mobile bar events, where food and drink vendors can set up temporary operations. Applicants have until March 4 to apply for a spot in this vibrant initiative, which aims to diversify the local food scene and offer fresh experiences, especially in the warmer months.

The idea originated from the political group 'Bündnis für Dachau', which previously proposed the concept to the city council in January 2015. This initiative has been met with enthusiasm, leading to the trial of various pop-up concepts last summer, including outdoor bars such as 'Ape Centrale' at the town hall square and 'Mobile Mixerei' in the Schrannenplatz. These temporary venues not only provided a lively atmosphere but also showcased innovative culinary ideas, proving to be a hit among patrons during their operation.

As the summer season approaches, the city is looking to build on this success, with the current winter-themed lounge offering seasonal drinks while still drawing interest due to its scenic views of the Munich skyline. Mayor Florian Hartmann has expressed support for the expansion of such temporary venues, highlighting their role in revitalizing public spaces and promoting community engagement through culinary experiences.
