Fugitive from Justice dies after confrontation with police in the riverside area of Juruti
A wanted criminal named Marcos Antônio Pimentel was killed in a police operation in Juruti, Brazil, where he was identified as the author of various crimes and had previously escaped custody.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 25, 2023, a fugitive known as Marcos Antônio Pimentel, or 'MP', was killed during an integrated police operation in Juruti, located in the western part of Pará, Brazil. The operation involved both the Military and Civil police and aimed to apprehend Pimentel, who had an outstanding arrest warrant against him for his involvement in numerous crimes in the municipality. The police action not only led to Pimentel's death but also resulted in six other individuals being taken to the police station for questioning.
Captain Rodrigo de Cássio, the commander of the 28th Company of Law Enforcement in Juruti, revealed that Pimentel had escaped from custody with the assistance of another inmate, nicknamed 'Mão Suada', who has since been recaptured. Another fugitive involved in the same escape, known as 'Hércules', had already been located earlier, leaving only Pimentel at large. The police had been conducting intelligence work to locate him before the confrontation occurred.
The confrontation highlights the ongoing issues of crime and justice in the region, as well as the challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with fugitives. It raises questions about the efficacy of measures taken to prevent inmate escapes and the safety of police operations in locating and apprehending high-risk individuals. Such incidents often spark discussions about reforms in the justice system and the resources allocated to police departments in Brazil, particularly in remote areas like Juruti.
