A dog named Ruck was rescued from a flooded house in Peruíbe, Brazil, after heavy rains caused significant flooding in the area, affecting nearly 500 residents and precipitating the rescue of over 70 animals.
In Peruíbe, a coastal city in São Paulo, a dog named Ruck was successfully rescued after being stranded in a house due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains from a storm that occurred from Saturday, September 21 to Monday, September 23. The rainfall exceeded the monthly average by 46%, leading to widespread flooding that affected approximately 500 people. The rescue operation, filmed by G1, highlighted the swift response of the Environmental Military Police, who worked to save both pets and other animals stranded by the rising waters.
Ruck, estimated to be around ten years old, was found on the second floor of a submerged house on Tuesday, September 24. Rescue footage shows the water level on the first floor was notably high, which made it impossible for the dog to escape on its own. A member of the Environmental Military Police entered the house, secured Ruck with a rope, and lowered him to safety while an unidentified man stood ready below to catch the dog. This operation was part of a larger effort as reports indicated that more than 70 animals, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and birds, required rescue due to the flooding.
The incident emphasizes the impact of extreme weather events on communities and their domestic animals. As floods continue to pose significant threats, the resilience and dedication shown by the local authorities and community volunteers are critical in mitigating the disaster's effects. The rescue of Ruck serves as a heartwarming reminder of the importance of animal welfare in times of crisis, highlighting the need for ongoing support and preparedness for such emergencies in the future.
