Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conductor Robertas Šervenikas, and soloists will send musical postcards from Vienna
The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra is set to perform a concert featuring musical works that serve as symbolic postcards from Vienna, including compositions by Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Robertas Šervenikas, is preparing to deliver a concert that highlights the musical heritage of Vienna through symbolic 'postcards' featuring renowned composers. The concert's first piece highlights Antonio Salieri's Symphony in D major, 'La Veneziana,' a work that encapsulates Salieri's significant influence in Vienna during the late 18th century, where he served as the court composer and was a prominent figure in the city’s musical landscape for over 40 years.
Salieri’s Symphony is not only a nod to his legacy but also represents the rich cultural tapestry of Vienna, as it draws from the overtures of his two operas, 'The School for Jealousy' and 'The Unexpected Departure.' This contextualizes the concert within a greater historical framework, showcasing how past compositions continue to resonate in contemporary performances. Following Salieri, the second 'postcard' presents the Flute, Harp, and Orchestra Concerto in C major, K. 299 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, noted for its unique approach to combining the harp and flute, which was quite rare during Mozart’s time.
The concerto is particularly celebrated for its challenging solo parts designed to showcase the talents of the performers, which will be highlighted by soloists Aistė Baliunytė-Dailidienė on harp and a Polish flutist. This concert not only serves as a celebration of Viennese musical history but also as an opportunity for contemporary musicians to step into a storied tradition, bridging the past and present through their performances.
