Gumma's Three-Person Death Accident, Defendant Appeals Against First Instance Ruling Recognizing Dangerous Driving
The defendant in a tragic accident in Gumma that resulted in the deaths of three people has filed an appeal against a 20-year sentence for dangerous driving.
In May 2024, a tragic accident occurred on Route 17 in Isesaki City, Gumma Prefecture, involving Goro Suzuki, a 71-year-old former truck driver, who was charged with violating Japan's Road Traffic Act due to dangerous driving which led to the deaths of three family members. Following the first instance ruling by the Maebashi District Court, which sentenced Suzuki to 20 years in prison citing his severe impairment due to alcohol consumption while driving, his legal team decided to appeal the decision at the Tokyo High Court. The court determined that Suzuki's condition severely hampered his ability to drive safely, qualifying his actions as extremely dangerous.
