The Spot Work Association, consisting of app operators involved in temporary and spot work, has recently announced changes to cancellation regulations to address the increasing occurrence of last-minute cancellations by companies. These alterations aim to tighten the rules on cancellations that occur after matching has been established, allowing them only under unforeseen circumstances that could not have been anticipated at the time of matching.

This initiative comes amid a backdrop of rising concerns relating to companies canceling jobs at the last moment, which has led to instances of unpaid wages and legal battles over claims for compensation. The updated regulations propose that cancellations based on mistakes in job postings would no longer be allowed within 24 hours of the work schedule. The association aims to bring more accountability to app operators while ensuring that workers are protected from last-minute cancellations that may happen without legitimate reasons.

Furthermore, the proposal explicitly states that cancellations based solely on low ratings from previous employers (referred to as the
