Kerameos: New employment program with 2,000 job openings in Eastern Macedonia-Thrace
The Greek Minister of Labor announced a new subsidized employment program aimed at creating 2,000 jobs in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to address unemployment in the region.
Greek Minister of Labor and Social Security, Niki Kerameos, announced a new subsidized employment program that aims to create 2,000 jobs in the regions of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. This announcement was made during an interview with ERT and follows a statement made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding employment opportunities in the region of Evros. The initiative is part of targeted efforts to stimulate employment in areas facing higher levels of unemployment.
The program will offer a monthly subsidy of up to 875 euros to businesses that hire unemployed individuals in the designated region, with the program set to last for 12 months. The aim is to incentivize businesses to take on new employees, ultimately leading to increased long-term employment stability beyond the program's duration. Kerameos emphasized the need for targeted interventions in areas where employment needs are most critical, particularly in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, which face significant economic challenges.
This initiative is intended not only to reduce unemployment statistics in the area but also to provide a substantial boost to local businesses, encouraging them to absorb new hires into their workforce. By focusing on areas with the greatest need, the government hopes to make a meaningful impact on job creation and economic revitalization in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, setting a precedent for similar programs in other underdeveloped regions of Greece.
