Best British food ranked as over a third say UK cuisine is 'underrated'

A recent survey reveals that 37% of adults consider British cuisine underrated, with fish and chips being ranked as the top British dish.

A recent survey conducted by OnePoll found that a significant portion of the British population believes that UK cuisine is underrated, with more than a third (37%) expressing this sentiment. The survey included 2,000 adults and highlighted fish and chips as the top-rated British dish, followed closely by the traditional Sunday roast and Yorkshire pudding, each favored by 63% of respondents. The findings suggest a strong affection for these classic dishes among the public.

Interestingly, the survey also revealed generational differences in perceptions of British food, particularly among younger adults. Among Generation Z, only 34% felt that British cuisine deserved more recognition compared to 45% of those aged over 80. This gap indicates a potential shift in culinary appreciation and the types of cuisine favored by different age groups, highlighting the evolving relationship younger generations have with traditional foods.

The data was released in conjunction with OnePoll's initiative to engage the public in a broader conversation about British food. Representatives from the organization, like Harry Gove, have emphasized the importance of comfort foods in British culture, including iconic dishes such as roasts and fish and chips. This survey serves not only to rank favorite meals but also to spark an ongoing debate about the value and recognition of British culinary traditions.
