The Estonian men's national basketball team is currently gearing up for two crucial World Cup qualifying games against Sweden, set to occur this week, with the first match taking place away on Friday, followed by a home game on Sunday. On Thursday, 14 players departed on a charter flight from Tallinn, although some adjustments are being made to the roster, with Hugo Toom and Leemet BΓΆckler being left out of this selection. The coaching staff is tasked with further trimming the team by two players before the games.
Assistant coach Indrek Reinbok shared insights on the team's preparation, highlighting a focused and industrious atmosphere during training sessions. He commented that, while team members participated in training despite the president's public engagements, the overall mood conveyed both a sense of professionalism and enthusiasm. Reinbok expressed confidence regarding the fitness levels of the players, noting that they are in the latter half of their season, which has contributed positively to their physical and mental readiness for the forthcoming matches.
With players displaying high levels of confidence thanks to regular playing time, the coaching staff is reassured by their preparedness as they approach these important qualifiers. Reinbok remarked on the swift pace of their training program compared to the summer period, suggesting that the current squad has adapted well. The team, bolstered by key players like Mattias Tass, is keen to capitalize on their strong form as they seek favorable outcomes in the upcoming games against Sweden, thereby aiming to secure qualification for the World Cup.
