Arrest of Osaka Prefectural High School Teacher on Assault Charge Against Elderly Man, Denies Accusation; Man Subsequently Dies
An Osaka high school teacher was arrested for allegedly assaulting an elderly man, who was later pronounced dead in the hospital.
In a tragic incident in Osaka's Yodogawa Ward, a 72-year-old man was found injured and unconscious in his apartment. He was taken to the hospital but unfortunately died later that day. The Osaka Prefectural Police announced the arrest of a 48-year-old teacher, Mizuko Suzuki, from Matsubara High School, on charges of assaulting the man. Police are investigating the relationship between the two men and if the injuries caused by the teacher are connected to the man's death.
Suzuki allegedly admitted to striking the man's face but denies that these injuries led to the man's fatal condition, claiming, "The injuries were not caused by me." The police believe that the assault occurred between the 18th and 21st of the month, during which the elderly man's facial injuries and bruising took place, according to reports. On the 24th, it was Suzuki who called emergency services after the man became unresponsive.
After the elderly man was declared dead, the police received a request for an autopsy, revealing that he suffered from a subdural hematoma and had also broken ribs. The Osaka Prefectural Education Board expressed regret over the arrest of a teacher, emphasizing the need for educators to serve as role models for students. They stated that they would take appropriate measures after confirming the facts of the case.
