Health Ministry announces R$ 90 million for SUS projects to combat cancer and diabetes

The Brazilian Health Ministry announced a R$ 90 million initiative to fund projects aimed at combating cancer, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis through the public health system (SUS).

The Brazilian Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Embrapii (Brazilian Company of Research and Innovation), unveiled a R$ 90 million funding initiative aimed at enhancing the public health system (SUS) in its efforts to fight cancer, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. The breakdown of the funding includes R$ 73 million provided by the ministry and Embrapii, while an additional R$ 17 million will come from contributions from seven partnering companies.

Among the highlighted projects is a pioneering engineering technique for CAR-T lymphocytes, designed specifically for cancer treatment. Another initiative includes a platform utilizing photonic and electric techniques, along with artificial intelligence, to track and manage diabetic patients effectively. Furthermore, the initiative will focus on developing a biopharmaceutical aimed at treating multiple sclerosis, showcasing a diversified approach to managing these health conditions within the SUS framework.

The announcement coincides with a ceremony intended to unveil broader efforts to minimize waiting times for diagnoses and treatments of rare diseases within the SUS. Health Minister Alexandre Padilha emphasized that this funding initiative aims to reduce Brazil's reliance on imported medical solutions, fostering local innovation and improving healthcare outcomes for Brazilian citizens.
