In the lead-up to the murder, Cruz reportedly reached out to a friend via audio messages expressing his desire to see Jaqueline dead, stating chillingly that he wanted her 'inside the grave.'

The couple had been separated for two months, during which Cruz displayed obsessive and violent behavior, failing to accept the end of their relationship. The victim's mother, Ana Cláudia Limeira Pinto, revealed that her daughter had endured relentless harassment, threats, and physical assaults at the hands of her ex-husband.
