Nine Arrested on Suspicion of Selling Uncensored Adult DVDs to Elderly Customers

Nine men have been arrested in Shinjuku for allegedly selling uncensored adult DVDs to elderly men who are unfamiliar with the internet.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of nine men in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district for allegedly selling uncensored adult DVDs to unsuspecting elderly men. Most of the suspects, aged between 40 and 60, reportedly approached senior men on the streets and in buildings, offering these DVDs illicitly. Among the arrested, eight men acknowledged their involvement, while one claimed to be innocent. The police believe this operation was a co-conspiracy that targeted vulnerable individuals who may not be familiar with buying such content online.

Police investigations revealed that around five identified customers, all averaging 73 years in age, purchased a total of 245 DVDs, spending approximately 73,000 yen. One elderly customer from Hokkaido mentioned that he was unaware of how to access unmoderated videos online, highlighting the predatory nature of this scheme. Thus, this criminal activity preyed on those who are less technologically savvy, raising concerns about safety and exploitation within the elderly community.

Moreover, investigators suspect that some of the proceeds from the sale of these DVDs are funneled to organized crime groups, indicating a larger criminal enterprise at play. The authorities are now looking into the connections between these suspects and potential gang affiliations, which could complicate the case further. This incident not only underlines the illegal trade of adult content in Japan but also emphasizes the need for protections for vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly, against exploitation.
