Cuba: 'U.S. speedboat entered our territorial waters, 4 shot dead'... U.S. adopts cautious stance for now
Cuba claims that a U.S. speedboat collided with its border guards, resulting in multiple casualties, and alleges a terrorist intent behind the incident.
Cuban authorities reported a confrontation between a U.S. speedboat and their border guards off the coast of Cuba that led to ten casualties. They assert that the speedboat was used by Cuban nationals residing in the U.S. who intended to infiltrate Cuba for terrorist purposes. The Cuban Interior Ministry revealed that ten armed individuals were confirmed aboard the boat, with weapons including rifles and Molotov cocktails, suggesting a premeditated act of aggression against the Cuban state.
In the aftermath of the clash, which occurred near the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, Cuban border guards engaged the speedboat after it allegedly opened fire first when approached. As a result, four individuals on the speedboat were killed, and six others were injured and transported to hospitals. The details indicate that at least one of the deceased and several others had prior criminal records connected to violent acts, highlighting the seriousness of the alleged infiltration attempt and its associated risks to national security.
The Cuban government emphasized its commitment to defending its territorial waters and announced that investigations would continue until all circumstances surrounding the incident are clarified. Meanwhile, the U.S. government is exercising caution and stated its intention to independently verify the facts, with the Department of Homeland Security and Coast Guard currently investigating the matter.
