Two Men Arrested for Murder of a Man, One Denies and One Remains Silent, Ibaraki Corpse Abandonment Case
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and abandonment of a body in Ibaraki Prefecture, with one suspect denying charges and the other remaining silent.
In a shocking incident that unfolded in Ibaraki Prefecture, police have arrested two men on suspicion of murdering a 48-year-old male whose body was discovered buried in a bush in 2025. The suspects, Shogo Umeda (33), who has no fixed residence, and Seiya Kumazaki (27) from Komatsu City in Ishikawa Prefecture, were re-arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for murder and other charges. Umeda has chosen to remain silent during questioning, while Kumazaki is denying the allegations against him.
According to the police's organized crime unit, the suspects are believed to have conspired to murder the victim between June 11 and 13, 2025, by brutally kicking him in the head and face inside a vehicle in Tokyo. The investigation revealed that the assault was triggered by the victim's interaction with a female acquaintance of Umeda and a dispute over drug trade activities, leading the suspects to allegedly kill the man. Authorities obtained video footage confirming the assault, which has substantiated their claims against the two.
Umeda and Kumazaki had previously been arrested and indicted for kidnapping and the subsequent disposal of the man's body in a remote area of Ibaraki, as part of a larger investigation. This case highlights the alarming connections between organized crime, drug trafficking, and violence, raising concerns about public safety and the need for stringent measures against such criminal activities in Japan.
