Cuba: Infiltrators shot on the boat from the USA

On Wednesday morning, Cuban authorities reported that four individuals were killed when a boat from Florida, suspected of carrying infiltrators, engaged with the Cuban Coast Guard.

On the morning of Wednesday, just off the Cayo Falcones islands in Cuba, an incident occurred involving a motorboat registered in Florida. According to the Cuban Interior Ministry, the crew of the boat opened fire on the coast guard, prompting a return of fire that resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to six others. The boat, carrying ten passengers, was suspected by the Cuban government to be a group of Cuban nationals residing in the United States who were allegedly attempting to infiltrate Cuba with terrorist motives.

Cuban authorities claim that those on board had a known history of criminal and violent activities, and several individuals were apprehended during the incident. Authorities also reported uncovering various weapons and materials on the boat, including automatic rifles, pistols, homemade explosives like Molotov cocktails, bulletproof vests, sniper scopes, and camouflage uniforms. This discovery has raised concerns regarding the potential threat posed by these infiltrators and the nature of their intentions towards the Cuban government.

In response to the incident, the United States has announced that it will investigate the situation. Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated in a press conference that the country is closely monitoring developments related to this incident, and there is no ongoing investigation against the individuals involved at this time. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between the United States and Cuba, particularly regarding issues of national security and terrorism, drawing attention to the complexities of migration, criminal activity, and foreign intentions in the region.
