The Ecuadorian Evasa Surrenders: She Fled from Bollate Ten Days Ago
Alba Leonora Sevillano Zambrano, an Ecuadorian woman serving time for murder, has surrendered after escaping from a prison in Italy for ten days.
Alba Leonora Sevillano Zambrano, a 42-year-old Ecuadorian woman, has surrendered to authorities after evading capture for ten days following her escape from Bollate prison. She had been granted a temporary leave for Valentine's Day on February 14 but failed to return to custody. Following her escape, she turned herself in at San Vittore prison where she was promptly detained by prison police.
Sevillano was convicted for the murder of 81-year-old Franca Monfrini in Milan in 2011. She was sentenced to imprisonment until 2032, having committed the crime during a period of being pregnant. The murder occurred after Sevillano offered to assist Monfrini with her groceries, only to strangle her with her own scarf in what seems to be a sudden turn of events. Following the murder, Sevillano stole the victim's ATM card, further complicating the circumstances surrounding her case.
This incident raises concerns about prison security and the circumstances under which inmates are granted temporary leave, particularly for violent offenders. The community, already affected by the original murder case, is likely to see renewed discourse surrounding public safety and the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs in managing inmates with dangerous histories.
