The mayor of Milan has announced the reopening of the Olympic flame at the Arch of Peace for the Paralympics, along with plans for nightly live shows during the games.
Milan's mayor, Beppe Sala, confirmed that the Olympic flame at the Arch of Peace will be reignited on March 6 for the Paralympic games, starting nightly live shows that previously attracted over 300,000 viewers during the Winter Games. Additionally, there are discussions about preserving the Olympic caldron and displaying it in a city museum, with the Science and Technology Museum being a top contender. Sala's assertion indicates strong civic engagement in maintaining and showcasing Olympic heritage.
The idea of hosting the Summer Olympics in Rome in 2040 has also gained traction, with Lombardy's governor, Attilio Fontana, emphasizing the region's potential to ensure a successful bid. Sala noted that while ambitions for the Olympics are commendable, the selection process happens seven years in advance, with decisions expected to unfold around 2033. The focus now should be on fostering a united vision among regional stakeholders to strengthen the bid.
This emphasis on Olympic and Paralympic events illustrates Milan's desire to leverage its rich sporting history and ensure hospitality and engagement during significant athletic events. As plans materialize for both local and potential future international events, the city positions itself as a key player on the global sports stage, promoting community involvement and cultural pride.
