Cuban Coast Guard kills four people on speedboat registered in Florida
The Cuban Coast Guard shot dead four people and injured six during a confrontation with a speedboat registered in Florida near Cuba's coast.
On Wednesday, a shooting incident occurred near the Cuban coast, where the Cuban Coast Guard killed four individuals and injured six aboard a speedboat registered in Florida, according to Cuba's Ministry of Interior. The confrontation comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and the communist regime of Cuba, located just 160 kilometers from Florida.
Cuba initially did not disclose the citizenship of the passengers on the U.S. registered boat, and U.S. officials have yet to comment on the incident. The Cuban Coast Guard reported that it encountered the 'illegal' Florida-registered speedboat approximately one nautical mile from the town of Falkoneskajas in the province of Villaclara. As the Coast Guard vessel approached, shots were fired from the U.S. speedboat, injuring the commander of the Cuban vessel.
Cuba's Ministry of Interior stated that as a result of the clash, four 'aggressors' were killed and six were injured, with the injured being evacuated and receiving medical assistance. The Cuban government frequently reports on clashes involving U.S. speedboats, heightening the ongoing narrative of conflict between the two nations over maritime border issues, smuggling, and migration.
