Body of 6-Year-Old Girl Found Sealed in Concrete, Uncle Admits to Charges in First Trial

In a tragic case, the uncle of a six-year-old girl whose body was found sealed in concrete has admitted to charges of injury causing death and abandonment of a corpse during his first trial in Osaka.

The trial for the murder of a six-year-old girl, Reina Iwamoto, whose body was discovered sealed in concrete in Yao City, Osaka, began on February 26 at the Osaka District Court. Her 42-year-old uncle, Noriyuki Iimori, facing charges of injury causing death and body abandonment, admitted to the prosecutorial allegations, stating, "There is no mistake." According to the indictment, Iimori is accused of beating Reina in late December 2006, which led to her death from traumatic shock. The horrific circumstances surrounding the case reveal a long history of violence and abuse.

Court documents describe the timeline of devastating events, stating that after Reina's death, her body was kept in a case made of concrete, which Iimori transported using a cart in November 2024. The situation came to light after the body of Reina was discovered in a cupboard of a long house, following concerns raised by the building's manager about suspicious circumstances. When the police questioned Iimori, he shockingly admitted, "There is a small child inside."

Furthermore, the case is shrouded in further tragic details, as Reina's residency records were terminated by the local authorities in Yao City in 2004 before her death, raising questions about the oversight and the circumstances surrounding her care. It has been reported that Reina's body was left unattended for 18 years after her death. The discovery of her remains and the trial itself has drawn attention to issues of familial violence and the societal failures in protecting vulnerable children, igniting public outrage and demands for systemic changes.
