PSG survive Monaco scare to reach Champions League last 16

Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the Champions League last 16 after drawing 2-2 against Monaco, winning 5-4 on aggregate despite a late scare.

In a dramatic Champions League knockout phase tie, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faced off against AS Monaco. The first leg of the match had PSG coming from behind to win 3-2, with Monaco finishing the game with 10 players. The second leg started with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche scoring to give them a crucial lead, thus drawing the aggregate scores level again. The match was tense with both teams fighting hard for progression.

Things turned for Monaco when Mamadou Coulibaly was sent off just 58 minutes in, which shifted the momentum back in favor of PSG. With the advantage of an extra player, PSG equalized through Marquinhos and then took the aggregate lead with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s goal, seemingly securing their passage to the next round. However, a late goal from Jordan Teze meant that the total score was 2-2 on the night, pushing the aggregate score to 5-4 in favor of PSG, who managed to hold on for the win despite the pressure.

This victory allows the defending champions PSG to move forward into the last 16 of the competition, and they will soon learn who their next opponent will be in the path to the final in Budapest. Coach Luis Enrique is now tasked with preparing the team for the challenges ahead in this prestigious tournament, as they seek to retain their title from last season.
