Pensioners praise Osun health insurance scheme
Pensioners in Osun State commend the health insurance scheme initiated by Governor Ademola Adeleke, noting significant benefits in reducing mortality and financial burdens.
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Osun State has expressed its gratitude for the proactive health initiative taken by Governor Ademola Adeleke, which has enrolled 20,000 pensioners into a health insurance scheme at no cost to them. This move has been hailed as a critical intervention that not only improves access to healthcare but also significantly lowers the financial strain on retirees, particularly amidst the rising costs of medical services in Nigeria. The union emphasized that the scheme has effectively contributed to reducing the mortality rate among its members.
The Secretary of the Osun NUP, Lawrence Aina, elaborated that the financial constraints faced by pensioners frequently leave them unable to afford basic needs, including healthcare. With the average monthly pension proving inadequate for day-to-day living, the health insurance scheme offers essential support, allowing pensioners to seek necessary medical care without the fear of crippling costs. Aina noted that the policy has been a lifesaver for many families, enabling them access to better health services which they previously could not afford.
This move also reflects the Adeleke administration's commitment to improving the lives of senior citizens in Osun State. By ensuring that pensioners are covered under a health insurance program, the government not only eases their financial burdens but also affirms its dedication to the welfare of its elderly population. As the elderly are often more vulnerable to health issues, the implementation of this scheme stands as a crucial step in fostering a healthier community, thereby inspiring other states to consider similar initiatives for their own pensioners.
