Aldi announces second pay rise for 28,000 workers

Aldi has announced a second pay rise this year for over 28,000 of its employees, raising their hourly wage to £13.50 and £14.88 respectively, effective from April 1.

Aldi has revealed a significant increase in pay for over 28,000 of its store workers across the UK, marking the second pay rise this year for its employees. Starting from April 1, hourly wages for store assistants will be raised to £13.50 nationally and £14.88 for those working inside the M25. Loyalty bonuses will also apply, with pay rates increasing to £14.47 and £15.20 based on length of service.

This move positions Aldi as a competitor for the highest-paying supermarket in the UK, following its proactive approach towards employee compensation. Early in the year, Aldi had already announced another pay rise scheduled for March 2026. This demonstrates Aldi's commitment to enhancing employee welfare and securing a competitive edge in the retail market, especially amid rising living costs.

With more than 45,000 employees in the UK, this pay rise is expected to have a significant impact on the workforce and could potentially set a precedent for pay increases across the retail sector. Aldi's approach may encourage other supermarkets to follow suit in order to retain talent in a highly competitive labor market.
